WETHERSFIELD BARRACUDAS

Coach Jen says.....

Welcome to the 2007-2008 Wethersfield Barracuda winter swim season.  We are looking forward to another fun and successful season full of individual and team improvement and personal best times.  The goal of our swim team is to provide a competitive atmosphere in which the swimmers can progress in speed, endurance and stroke technique.  In order to participate on the swim team, each swimmer must have completed swim lesson Level IV, as outlined by the American Red Cross, and/or be able to swim 2 laps (50 yds.) of the pool consecutively.

As part of a team, we hope the swimmers develop a sense of commitment, dedication and a desire to improve and succeed by working hard and having a positive attitude.  We encourage each swimmer to participate in every swim meet of the season in order to experience being a member of the team, as well as being able to see how practice can improve their times in events swum at a meet.  The more often swimmers practice and the harder they work at practice, the better their chance of improving endurance and technique and increasing their speed.  Last season, the Advanced group averaged 2000-2500 yds. (80-100 laps), while the Beginner group averaged 1000-1500 yds. (40-60 laps) each practice; however practices are based on the ability of each lane.  Swimmers are expected to be in the water by the start time of practice, therefore the coaches will be on deck at least 10 minutes prior to the start to allow swimmers the opportunity to change and be ready for practice on time.   Please ensure every effort to get your swimmer(s) to practice on time.  Swimmers arriving late disrupt the practice in session, have a decreased warm-up, and may miss important information that the coach reviews prior to practice.

This year our season consists of 5 swim meets and an A and B Championship, with only one of these meets being a Home meet.  It is imperative that we have help from parents in order to run each of these meets, whether home or away.  Positions that will need to be filled by parents include timers, ribbon writers, meet scorers, and officials (if taken the USS Officiating Course).  We thank you in advance for your anticipated help.

Our three coaches will be returning for their third season.  Jen, Head Coach, has 5 years of coaching experience, as well as 15 years of competitive swimming from town leagues and USS to high school and the college level.  Jen is a certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, and WSI certified.  Jessica has 3 years of coaching experience, as well as 12 years of competitive swimming from town leagues and USS to the high school level.  Jaclyn also brings 3 years of coaching experience, as well as 12 years of competitive swimming from town leagues to the high school level.  Each coach is certified in First Aid and CPR.

We encourage open communication between the parents, swimmers and coaches and appreciate concerns and questions pertaining to any aspect of our program being brought to the Head Coach's attention.  We anticipate a great season!  The following is a list of important dates and notes to remember:

Please do not leave personal items in the locker rooms.  All swimmers should leave their belongings on the yellow ledge by the pool or in the stands with an adult.

All parents and swimmers should arrive and depart from the main pool entrance (not locker rooms).  This is for safety purposes.

Safety is our first priority!!  Please help us ensure the safety of our swimmers and spectators by making sure your child is not running and jumping on the bleachers OR sliding down/sitting on the cement slope of the bleachers!!  We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Be sure to check the file boxes, when they are out, for important information pertaining to WBAR.  This is also where ribbons for the swimmers will be for pick up following a meet.

Swimmers must turn in the meet participation form by the WEDNESDAY prior to the meet in order for your swimmer to be included in the meet line-up.  A lot of time and effort goes into making a swim line-up and it is very important to know who is participating in the meet.

We strongly encourage all swimmers to wear a sandal or some protective shoe on the pool deck and in the locker rooms to avoid contacting the many foot fungi/viruses that exist on the locker room/pool floors.

Please feel free to see Jen, Head Coach, after the practice with questions/concerns or call at 860 830 1301.

The banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 4th at 6 PM at the Community Center.

THANK YOU!!!
